Peace of Mind, a road to Happiness.

Image
When is the mind peaceful? When there is desire but not craving. When you have important goals but they are not making you restless. There are failures but you learn from them instead of regretting. When the journey towards your goal is as enjoyable as the feeling of accomplishment once you get there. When you are completely at ease with yourself and the place you are in, in your life. What takes away peace? Whenever we encounter negative emotions like jealousy, hatred, anger, etc. they take away our peace of mind instantly. An uncontrollable desire for something leaves feeling unhappy till we get it. Regret over the past leaves us feeling sad & Anxiety about the future leaves us feeling worried. We cannot experience peace in either case. Simple Ways to Increase Your Peace of Mind # Accept things that are beyond your control. # Trust yourself for your abilities to deal with challenges whenever they arise. Let go of your anxiety and worry. # Learn to have fun and enjoy your jo...

Take the Enjoyment Challenge to feel Happier.

Image
One of our clients gave us a talent search assignment with screening criteria of finding students who have scored good marks across all subjects and not just 1 or 2 of their favorite ones. When asked why do they need to have good marks even in the subjects that they won't need during their job here, she asked why should I hire someone who doesn't work hard when he or she finds it boring. Any work, even software programming can get boring at times. I don't want to hire someone who only wants to do fun stuff but somebody who can have fun while doing any kind of stuff. Is that even possible, I started wondering. I started looking around at people who are really successful and are at top of their field and realized that these people have embraced everything that they need to do to be there which includes things which others may consider boring, be it an athlete exercising for fitness or a CEO analyzing MIS for performance tracking and analysis or CFO facing audits for complia...

The three grand essentials to Happiness

Image
“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” – Joseph Addison An empty mind is a devil's workshop. When we have nothing worthwhile to do, our mind starts wandering around. Many times we end up recollecting something that we did not like in our past or we start imagining a future that we are anxious or worried about. In either case, we end up losing our peace of mind and happiness. To stay in the flow state or the state of complete engagement with the present we need to be occupied in doing something that holds our attention in such a way that we even lose the track of time. When I am writing an article on topics related to happiness, I usually find myself in such a state. I am sure you would also have your preferences for activities that help you feel completely engaged and happy.  Love is a very beautiful and powerful emotion. We are always eager to sacrifice our time, money, comfort, and even life for someth...

OPTIMISM is a Happiness Magnet

Image
OPTIMISM is a Happiness Magnet. If you stay POSITIVE, Good things & Good people will be drawn to you. - Mary Lou Retton Optimism is hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of something. It is a mental attitude reflecting a belief or hope that the outcome of some specific endeavor, or outcomes in general, will be positive, favorable, and desirable. Researchers have found that an optimistic worldview carries advantages such as Superior Health, Greater Achievement, Persistence, Emotional Health, Increased Longevity & Less Stress.  Pessimism, on the other hand, is much more common; pessimists are more likely to give up in the face of adversity or to suffer from depression. The good news is that you can learn & improve your optimism. Learned optimism is the idea in positive psychology that a talent for joy, like any other, can be cultivated. Seligman's process of learning optimism consists of a simple method to train a new way of responding to adversity. ...

Let's learn to find happiness in the happiness of others.

Image
"Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others, and in their pleasure takes joy, even as though it were his own.", Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. I got a new car and I was happy. The next week my neighbor got a new car, which was more expensive than mine and I was even more happier. Yes you got me, I am indeed lying about the happier part. Every time something better happens to others, while feeling happier for them, it is somehow difficult to feel happier for self too. The ingrained sense of competitiveness gives the feeling that somebody else has won the race. The invisible race that exists only in my own head. Compassion and empathy is most commonly referred in the context of understanding and feeling the sufferings of others in order to support them through their difficult times. When we put ourself in their shoes and feel their pain, we are bound to be more emphatic towards them. If we can learn to feel the pain of others, we should be able to l...

Grow happiness under your feet.

Image
"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet.", James Oppenheim. Assignments are boring, homework is such a waste of time, exams are absolutely needless, I wish my education is over soon and I don't have to deal with all this stuff. It would put an end to my miseries and I would finally be happy... often thought my foolish mind while traveling through, supposedly, the most amazing part of my life's journey, the schooling. Now when I look back and remember those beautiful days, I realize how wrong I was to wish it to be over soon. Happiness was there right under my feet. I could have had all the fun in my life, surrounded by joyful friends, loving teachers, and endless possibilities for a bright future.  And when I introspect about how I feel now about the present moment, I realize that I am repeating the foolishness all over again. I am working hard, trying to earn money and make my name, so that someday in the future ...

Be Cheerful to feel happier and spread happiness

Image
"Cheerfulness is what greases the axles of the world. Don't go through life creaking." H.W.Byles. Cheerfulness is the quality or state of being noticeably happy and optimistic. Why is it important to be cheerful? Who would you like to be in the company of: - a cheerful friend who is is bubbling with energy and enthusiasm as if he is the luckiest person alive or  - a grumpy one who acts as if the world is going to end tomorrow and he won't be able to drive his favourite car which he hasn't even bought? Who do you think would have a better immunity and ability to deal with challenges in life: - someone who is cheerful and optimistic about life and future or - or someone who always looks worried and anxious? Who would you consider as more charismatic when you meet at conference or a public event: - someone who is cheerful, smiling and meeting people warmly or - someone who is cold, sheepish and frowning? When it comes to assessing others we are quickly dr...

Gift Happiness to Get Happier.

Image
"Happiness is a by-product of an effort to make someone else happy", Gretta Brooker Palmer. There are various different ways in which we all seek happiness. Most of the time our efforts are focused on doing or buying things that we think will make us happy.  In one of the research on happiness, people were asked about how much money they spend on themselves for bills, expenses, and gifts for self; and what they spent on others by way of gifts, donations, and charity. They were also asked to rate their happiness level. The outcome of this research showed that those who spent more on others also reported a higher level of happiness. Instead of focusing on making yourself happy, consider gifting happiness by doing or giving something to others. You will surely experience a higher level of happiness and satisfaction too. Let's learn to live a happier life and spread happiness together. Happiness Life Coach, Puneet Dhingra Here is a small effort to help everyone learn to be ha...

Do what you believe in.

Image
"There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do", Freya Stark. We all see life differently. We all have different preferences to live this life to its fullest. Sometimes we do things to fit in our surroundings, to meet the expectations of our parents, or under peer pressure. When we do such compromises, we are setting ourselves up for less than the ideal experience of our life.  If you believe in being in nature, how good will it do for you to accept a desk job? If you believe in being creative, what kind of experience will a repetitive job give you? If you believe in caring for the animals, wouldn't it be much better if you also choose a life that lets you be with them? Pause for a moment. Ask yourself, what is it that you truly believe in, which will give you happiness as well as satisfaction? Check, are you doing what you believe in? If not, gently steer yourself in the right direction. Every morning brings with it...

Recognise and appreciate what you already have

Image
"We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have.", Frederick Keonig. We always have a list of things that we desire which may include a new house, a new car, an electronic gadget and so on. When we anchor our happiness on getting these things we are setting ourselves to achieving happiness for short durations only. An electronic gadget will make us excited and happy for few days, a new car for few weeks, a new house for a few months and then we get used to them and start looking for something else to feel happy again. On the contrary there are plenty of things in our life that we fail to recognise and appreciate. For a moment just look around and identify things that are part of your life already and important to you. These are the things if taken away from you will leave you feeling uncomfortable and unhappy. These things include our health, relations...

You might as well be Happy.

Image
"Nobody really cares if you are miserable, so you might as well be happy.", Cynthia Nelms. Life does give us challenges at times, that leave us feeling low. We look around expecting some understanding & sympathy. Coincidently everyone around us is busy fighting their own battles. No one seems to be able to care for our miseries. So might as well be happy and cheer everyone around us. Happy people are better equipped to deal with all the challenges of life. Let's learn to be happier and spread happiness together.

Happiness comes from your own actions.

Image
"Happiness is not something readymade. It comes from your own actions.", Dalai Lama. Actions such as working on your favorite project, helping others who are in need, making your loved ones smile and laugh, being grateful for all that you have, being appreciative of others, will not only help you create happiness for yourself but also spread it all around you. Let's spread happiness together and make this world, a better & happier place. #Happiness #EvokingHappiness #SpreadingHappiness

Be Happy Now

Image
"Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Be happy now.", Earl Nightingale This is a beautiful quote. It reminds us that we should not wait for something outside of our self or our control to make us happy. All that we require to feel happier is already inside of us. We just need to build the right perspective to look at our life. Also so there is no point it in waiting for something to happen in future to make us feel happy. Every moment that we live is precious. It would be worthwhile to start feeling happy right from now so that we live and experience life in the best possible way.

Keep exploring your life for ways to happiness.
