Let's learn to find happiness in the happiness of others.

"Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others, and in their pleasure takes joy, even as though it were his own.", Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.

I got a new car and I was happy. The next week my neighbor got a new car, which was more expensive than mine and I was even more happier. Yes you got me, I am indeed lying about the happier part.

Every time something better happens to others, while feeling happier for them, it is somehow difficult to feel happier for self too. The ingrained sense of competitiveness gives the feeling that somebody else has won the race. The invisible race that exists only in my own head.

Compassion and empathy is most commonly referred in the context of understanding and feeling the sufferings of others in order to support them through their difficult times. When we put ourself in their shoes and feel their pain, we are bound to be more emphatic towards them.

If we can learn to feel the pain of others, we should be able to learn to feel their joy as well. This simple practice can open for us endless opportunities to fill our life with happiness, by simply learning to appreciate the merits of others and finding pleasure in each of their joyful moments. The one who learns to do this would indeed become the happiest among us.

Let us, together, learn to find happiness in the happiness of others.

Wishing you more happiness every day.
