The three grand essentials to Happiness

“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”
– Joseph Addison

An empty mind is a devil's workshop. When we have nothing worthwhile to do, our mind starts wandering around. Many times we end up recollecting something that we did not like in our past or we start imagining a future that we are anxious or worried about. In either case, we end up losing our peace of mind and happiness. To stay in the flow state or the state of complete engagement with the present we need to be occupied in doing something that holds our attention in such a way that we even lose the track of time. When I am writing an article on topics related to happiness, I usually find myself in such a state. I am sure you would also have your preferences for activities that help you feel completely engaged and happy.

Love is a very beautiful and powerful emotion. We are always eager to sacrifice our time, money, comfort, and even life for something or someone we love. Find out what you love. Even thinking about that thing will help you feel happier.

One of the key distinction between humans and other animals is that we are able to plan for our future even beyond biological needs driven by nature. All our present actions are aligned to give us what we want in the future. Our present state of mind and actions are positive when we are excited about and hopeful of something good in the future. It is essential for us to learn to never lose hope irrespective of negative outcome or failures. Hope is the wooden plank that keeps us afloat when our boat capsizes. Let us have faith in our abilities to swim across the rough patches in our life and never lose hope.

Give purposeful actions, love, and hope a permanent place in your life and you will find yourself floating through your life happily.

Wishing you more happiness every day.
