Be Cheerful to feel happier and spread happiness

Image
"Cheerfulness is what greases the axles of the world. Don't go through life creaking." H.W.Byles. Cheerfulness is the quality or state of being noticeably happy and optimistic. Why is it important to be cheerful? Who would you like to be in the company of: - a cheerful friend who is is bubbling with energy and enthusiasm as if he is the luckiest person alive or  - a grumpy one who acts as if the world is going to end tomorrow and he won't be able to drive his favourite car which he hasn't even bought? Who do you think would have a better immunity and ability to deal with challenges in life: - someone who is cheerful and optimistic about life and future or - or someone who always looks worried and anxious? Who would you consider as more charismatic when you meet at conference or a public event: - someone who is cheerful, smiling and meeting people warmly or - someone who is cold, sheepish and frowning? When it comes to assessing others we are quickly dr...

Gift Happiness to Get Happier.

Image
"Happiness is a by-product of an effort to make someone else happy", Gretta Brooker Palmer. There are various different ways in which we all seek happiness. Most of the time our efforts are focused on doing or buying things that we think will make us happy.  In one of the research on happiness, people were asked about how much money they spend on themselves for bills, expenses, and gifts for self; and what they spent on others by way of gifts, donations, and charity. They were also asked to rate their happiness level. The outcome of this research showed that those who spent more on others also reported a higher level of happiness. Instead of focusing on making yourself happy, consider gifting happiness by doing or giving something to others. You will surely experience a higher level of happiness and satisfaction too. Let's learn to live a happier life and spread happiness together. Happiness Life Coach, Puneet Dhingra Here is a small effort to help everyone learn to be ha...

Do what you believe in.

Image
"There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do", Freya Stark. We all see life differently. We all have different preferences to live this life to its fullest. Sometimes we do things to fit in our surroundings, to meet the expectations of our parents, or under peer pressure. When we do such compromises, we are setting ourselves up for less than the ideal experience of our life.  If you believe in being in nature, how good will it do for you to accept a desk job? If you believe in being creative, what kind of experience will a repetitive job give you? If you believe in caring for the animals, wouldn't it be much better if you also choose a life that lets you be with them? Pause for a moment. Ask yourself, what is it that you truly believe in, which will give you happiness as well as satisfaction? Check, are you doing what you believe in? If not, gently steer yourself in the right direction. Every morning brings with it...

Recognise and appreciate what you already have

Image
"We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have.", Frederick Keonig. We always have a list of things that we desire which may include a new house, a new car, an electronic gadget and so on. When we anchor our happiness on getting these things we are setting ourselves to achieving happiness for short durations only. An electronic gadget will make us excited and happy for few days, a new car for few weeks, a new house for a few months and then we get used to them and start looking for something else to feel happy again. On the contrary there are plenty of things in our life that we fail to recognise and appreciate. For a moment just look around and identify things that are part of your life already and important to you. These are the things if taken away from you will leave you feeling uncomfortable and unhappy. These things include our health, relations...

"Nobody really cares if you are miserable, so you might as well be happy.", Cynthia Nelms. Life does give us challenges at times, that leave us feeling low. We look around expecting some understanding & sympathy. Coincidently everyone around us is busy fighting their own battles. No one seems to be able to care for our miseries. So might as well be happy and cheer everyone around us. Happy people are better equipped to deal with all the challenges of life. Let's learn to be happier and spread happiness together.
